After The Car - Kingsley Dennis & John Urry
I thought this book was going to be about transportation.
I think people of the future will avoid early 21st century books, where everyone thought the world was ending from climate change and only predicted doom..In short, the point of this book is to theorize about how we will get around in the certain scenario that
1. We run out of oil
2. The climate gets hotter and
3. Population grows out of control.
Without these assumptions, there is no book. Their 3 possible “post car” futures, the authors admit, are all bad.
It is sad to see almost all of academia so caught up in doomsday that they can write a book about transportation and hardly talk about transportation...Luckily, I don’t believe any of the 3 doomsday tenets, and I do not believe we will ditch the car in this century.
I don’t recommend this book, or believing that your breath is destroying Earth and this requires a technocratic dystopia without cars.
