Day Trading Attention - Gary Vaynerchuk

This book was great!

Gary is a pretty polarizing figure it seems, people either love him or hate him. Regardless of your feelings, he’s been right about most things regarding social media.

This book is a very detailed overview of using social media for business. All of his books are about this, but this books gives more nitty gritty details than the others.

Though I appreciated the detail, and Gary is always easy and enjoyable to read, I didn’t get as much out of this book as I hoped.

His previous book Crushing It! was much broader, like a roadmap, whereas this new one is more like an architectural plan - very specific. I used that roadmap to the letter and it worked very well - within a year I was out of poverty and on my way to financial stability.

Many people used the Crushing It! map to great success. Because it was SO good, I have to rate this one less. I think Gary was trying to create strategies for businesses that don’t intuitively translate into online content - whereas for businesses like mine (health products), we don’t need this creativity, because the business has always been based on distributing information. Instead of handing out CDs and fliers IRL, I just put the same information on social.

This book should be very helpful for those who can’t see how their business would translate to online content. I enjoyed Gary’s ideas. But it just didn’t apply much to me.

Social is always evolving and those of us running businesses here need to stay up to date. This book is still valuable for that - I got some new ideas and clarity on new functions on social sites.

Crushing It! Applies much more generally. I put it on my mandatory reading list - but this book I really only think you need to read if you’re trying to do business on social and struggling.
