Mega-Nutrition - Richard Kunin
This book was pretty good!
While not the most comprehensive book, it does a great job of outlining the theory, the general principles, and the resistance from mainstream medicine.
There were several studies and tidbits that I wasn’t aware of. What was unique about this book is the author’s method of determining the perfect amount of carbohydrates that his patients would thrive on. The method is similar to determining optimal nutrient intakes for individuals, and I think this method is valuable for all current diets - I rarely ever see “personalized” dieting advice.
Though high protein or high fat are the two dominant diet concepts in the last several decades, there has been reported success with higher (complex) carbohydrate diets since at least the 1970s. This research has been near completely ignored, though I still find people who do much better on this diet than on any protein or fat focused plan.
This book is worth reading. I am always fascinated how much we knew decades ago (this was published in 1980), and yet mainstream medicine still ignores almost all of the successes of nutrition to this day.
