No More Sleepless Nights - Peter Hauri & Shirley Linde

I spent the first 25 years of my life as an insomniac, and I have mixed feelings about this book.

I think this book is valuable, even though I feel it falls short. Sleep is very interesting, and sleep problems are so prolific that anyone could benefit from knowing more on the subject.

Much of the advice in the book is useful, and I have used many of these techniques to manage my insomnia.

My big problem is the difference between managing and eliminating a problem. In some cases, the advice in this book can absolutely eliminate the insomnia. But, many or most sleep problems are nutritional problems, and though this book mentions this, it definitely does not hit that point hard enough, or emphasize or elaborate on this enough.

I am convinced that even the people whose sleep trouble is caused by stress and bad sleep habits, I bet they’d get even more predictable results with a proper nutritional protocol.

The book is still valuable because bad sleep habits is still a problem even if your nutrition is perfect. And I see this book all the time at thrift shops, so it’s definitely worth a dollar or two.

Just know, Nutrition plays a bigger role than is recognized, and scientific validation of that is probably not coming any time soon. Known techniques are valuable, but should be used with smart nutrition.
