The Case Against Sugar - Gary Taubes
Mixed feelings about this book.
As a history of sugar and the sugar industry, it was pretty good.
But, this is a complicated subject and there is no book on it that I would recommend, because they all leave something (or many things) out. This probably isn’t on purpose, authors just tend to hone in on one part of the picture - in this case, processed sugar.
This is why I wrote Everything You Should Know About Healthy Blood Sugar. I have been reading a bunch of sugar books recently because I am working on the second edition - stay tuned.
Explaining the problems with all these books requires a new book. Briefly, sugar isn’t the only culprit. It’s part of the problem but not the entire problem. There are many other factors like nutrient deficiencies, stress, dehydration, sleep, drugs, alcohol, other processed foods, and more. Most of these books make a compelling case if you don’t know anything about the other factors, but they fall apart once you know the whole story.
Don’t recommend.
